We are joined by Ben from Plaion, the people who bought you the Atari 2600+ and the forthcoming 7800+. We talk about cartridge gaming, get some info on the new Atari consoles and wonder what could be next from Atari. Do you worry about being fooled by fake cartridge games on sale in stores which may not know how to spot a fake? The BBC looked into it. Finally, are hard drives really as unreliable as reported? Maybe not.

NVIDIA Bailed Out By SEGA!? - This Week In Retro 182 Icon: Link

Published:

Description: It's This Week In Retro, your weekly round up of news for old ( and sometimes not so old ) computers, consoles and games. This week we look back at some of the stand out loading screens from the Atari ST, find out how SEGA helped NVIDIA become what it is today and wonder if a CRT running at crazy refresh rates is the best option for modern gaming.
All this and many more snippets of news in brief and your answers to our Community Question Of The Week!
Neil is off for a few weeks and we needed somebody to step up and ctrl-alt-rees put his hand into the air, bounced around with excitement and demanded we pick him, so we did. Thank you Rees for keeping Dave company this week. Please visit his website https://ctrl-alt-rees.com/
Please take a moment from your busy day to visit https://www.pixel.addict.media/ and take a look at the all new issue of Pixel Addict magazine. Do you remember before laptops were really a thing and various manufacturers tried to squeeze fully functioning computers into something that became known as a luggable computer? It doesn't matter, either way you should nab a copy and check out the lead feature. Thanks!

PSA: It has been very warm in the UK this week and my Cadbury Buttons melted when I left them in my car by mistake. Do not make this error. You get a bag of choccy soup for a while and then once it cools you have a single chunk in a shape almost too awkward to eat.....almost, I persevered.

Once again Radio is going to be used to distribute computer code. Find out what and where. JagJam 2024 hopes to bring some top notch games to Atari's Jaguar console. Back in the 1980s there was a home automation system that didn't require the internet (it did require you to read a hefty manual though).

Windows 7 Runs Out Of Steam - This Week In Retro 129 Icon: Link

Published:

Description: We are very happy to be joined by Amiga Bill this week as we discuss the end of Steam for Windows 7, the lost art of home made game maps and remembering that before Duke Nukem discovered a 3rd dimension he was  running around in 2D platforming adventures.
Do you remember Flashback? Would you say it is a similar game to Dragon's Lair? Dave does but what about the other hosts? Amiga Bill walks us through his modified Amiga A1200.
All this and your answers to our Community Question Of The Week.

Amiga Vs Atari ST - It’s WAR! - This Week In Retro 113 Icon: Link

Published:

Description: Brace yourselves for the revival of that old school argument. Which is better, the Amiga or the Atari ST? Please don't throw your half eaten sandwiches or peanut our tie knots so we can't undo them. We are simply looking at a proposed book which has a crowd funder running.  In safer territory we also look at the awesome and unofficial sequel titled Golden Axe Returns! Have you even stumbled across your old game disks or hardware in a shop? Something you sold or gave away years ago? Chances are slim, but what if there was some organisation out there that was looking to reunite people with their old stuff?
All this and our Community Question Of The Week.

Eye Of The Beholder Comes to C64/C128 - This Week In Retro 101 Icon: Link

Published:

Description: Hope you are sitting comfortably as its a longer than usual episode this week. We were joined by Jason from Mr Lurch's Things on the team this week and had a good old chat. There is a wonderful story of an Amiga user who died far too young and after recovering some of his Deluxe Paint art he now has an exhibit dedicated to him at the Derby Computer Museum. We talk about the different stages of collecting, are you the type who must buy everything or have you moved on to only wanting what you need? Finally we look at the stunning version of Eye Of The Beholder for the C64 & C128.
All that and the Community Question Of The Week.

Quake On a 3.5Mhz Sinclair Spectrum? - This Week In Retro 97 Icon: Link

Published:

Description: Violet Berlin tweeted to remind us that Bad Influence (the CITV show) is now 30 years old. We think back to some the tech/computer/console/gaming shows of the time and wonder what similar shows the rest of the world had. Have you seen the 'Quake' engine that has been created for the Sinclair Spectrum? Even at 3.5Mhz it is very impressive. We take a look and Chris made some footage of it running at 3.5Mhz and at 7Mhz. Finally, a new computer museum is opening in Leigh (UK), in an old mill of all places. ctrl-alt-rees has been to take a look. Will Neil have any advice for them?
